The specialized master's programme reflects research and practice of communications management against the background of fundamental/basic theories of the social sciences. The programme amounts to 105 ECTS credits and addresses the design, implementation, control and evaluation of strategic communication. Namely it examines the players involved, methods used, content produced, as well as the potential effects of strategic communication and their actual effects. Additionally, and from a broader perspective, the programme analyses the societal framework for media and communication and its ongoing changes, the social embeddedness of communication by corporate and collective actors and the feedback such communication has on the public sphere. The taught master's programme includes lectures in research methodology as well as research-led courses on strategy, organisation, communication effects and campaign evaluation.
Prerequisites for this specialized master's programme are a Bachelor's Degree with a good or excellent grade (minimum 5.0) together with methodological and theoretical knowledge equivalent to a Bachelor's programme in Mass Communication and Media Research (major) at the University of Zurich (research methodology, statistics and data analysis, theories and fields of research in mass communications and media research).
