
The director manages the Institute and represents it externally. S/he is responsible for the conception, organization, and where necessary, the optimization and control of business processes. Curricula planning and teaching is part of his/her tasks, in conjunction with the management of the academic, technical and administrative staff of the institute. The director represents the IPMZ and its interests vis-à-vis the university and the public.
The director is available by appointment during his/her office hours for questions and complaints regarding the Institute. An appointment may be scheduled through the secretary’s office. All general questions should please be addressed in the first instance to the executive management. The executive management supports the director of the IPMZ in all conceptual, operative and current administrative matters. Among its managerial tasks are:

The executive management is the contact point for general questions regarding the IPMZ, requests by students as well as questions and requests regarding exam regulations.
The Institute Assembly is composed of all professors, assistant professors, SNF-professors as well as the director of the Institute or his/her substitute.
In addition there are six delegates of all groups represented at the Institute: a representative of private lecturers (Privatdozent), two members of the mid-level faculty, two representatives of mass communication and media research majors, and a representative of the administrative and technical personnel.
The Assembly proposes the appointment of the director, the enactment of, and amendment to the Institute’s regulations. Furthermore, the Assembly prepares decisions and proposals in the following areas: development and budgetary planning; establishment, re-organization and abolition of Chairs or the Institute; approval of visiting professors and assignment of teaching.
The director of the Institute is supported by the executive management and by an advisory board that is composed of all chairs of the IPMZ.
